Network Performance

In a multi user environment where regional offices are utilized, users can connect to the central server over a network.

The connection recommended to the regional offices (considering standard X connection) is 2Mbps shared, or using compressed data-flow (What MetaFrame 1.2 from Citrix, or Tarantella would provide) 64kbps dedicated. The longest delay we would expect, in displaying a window - for connection reasons - from our experience is 20 sec, but most of the time 2-8 sec.

X-Emulation Software

There are different solutions from different manufacturers. Our recommendations are based on our experience and the experience of our customers. For slow network connections we recommend:

Hardcopy Devices

All hardcopy devices must be PostScript compatible.

Note: HP has begun to offer printers that claim to be PostScript compatible but will not work with iQ·link. Most printers that are PostScript compatible have a hardware card installed that interprets PostScript into a language the printer understands. The HP Design Jet Color Pro GA is one printer that is not delivered with a hardware PostScript card but rather, it comes with PostScript interpretation software that is to be installed on Windows NT machines. HP claims that a version of this software is available for the SUN UNIX platform, however, we have been unable to obtain this software. For now, we recommend avoiding this printer and others like it which require Postscript interpretation software.
