When the PCS bands were auctioned in 1995, more than 4,500 U.S. point-to-point microwave paths already used the 1.9 GHz band. Because the new PCS systems and the incumbent microwave systems would operate in the same frequency band, the FCC established a series of rules for both parties to share the spectrum. Relocation Guidelines In the event that a PCS system would cause harmful interference to microwave systems, the PCS operator can approach the incumbent to relocate their system to an alternate frequency band.
