Comsearch Releases Version 8.1 of iQ·link Microwave Network Design Software
Enhancements include automatic frequency planning module for automatic transmit power control and correlated fading

Ashburn, VA - Comsearch, an Andrew company (NASDAQ:ANDW), recently released Version 8.1 of iQ·link® premier fixed microwave network planning software. iQ·link software supports the end-to-end engineering design, operation, and maintenance for both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint fixed microwave networks. The software not only enables microwave engineers to build reliable communications networks, it also continues supporting those networks after their deployment. "Today's wireless carriers are constantly faced with network engineering challenges and the high costs associated with network upgrades," said Terry Garner, Group President Network Solutions, Andrew Corporation. "With iQ·link Version 8.1, carriers can optimize their network engineering parameters and get the most efficient use from their existing spectrum."

Version 8.1 of iQ·link software includes major new network engineering support features such as:

  • Automatic Frequency Planning (AFP) module. This enables a group of microwave links to be selected, iQ·link then automatically determines interference-free channels to assign to each link.
  • Support for Automatic Transmit Power Control (ATPC). Because many microwave radios now use ATPC for spectrum efficiency, iQ.link software now considers ATPC during its design and interference analysis of microwave links.
  • Correlated Fading. In higher frequency bands, where rain is the primary fading mechanism, correlated fading is used to relax interference objectives, making it easier to assign frequencies in a congested microwave environment.

Version 8.1 of iQ·link software includes new and improved screens for engineering and database interfaces and the ability to support Geographic Information Services data in the ERDAS IMAGINE format as well as GeoTIFF formatted files. Implemented by operators and vendors throughout the world, iQ·link software has already been used to successfully engineer over 200,000 microwave links operating over the full range of frequencies and applications.

"Our iQ·link software is a field proven, full-featured, and robust fixed network engineering design tool that is continually updated and tailored to customer requirements," added Garner. "The latest enhancements of iQ·link, including ATPC, correlated fading, and enhanced Geographic Information Services, are in response to our customers' needs for automation and improved system performance."

iQ·link is a UNIX®-based engineering tool suite operating on Sun® workstations and using an Oracle® relational database. The software can be provided as a stand-alone engineering toolset or accessed via a web-based interface from a neutral host server. Either option provides the end-user with the full capabilities of this world-leading fixed network microwave planning software solution.
