Comsearch Selected to Perform Frequency Coordinations for the Wireless Medical Telemetry Service
Engineering Firm Chosen to Serve as Technical Partner
to Large Healthcare Engineering Association
ASHBURN, VA - Comsearch, an Allen Telecom company (NYSE: ALN), announced today that it has been selected by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association (AHA) as their technical partner to perform frequency coordination services in the new Wireless Medical Telemetry Service.
In response to growing concern for interference resulting from new digital television transmitters, low power television transmitters, and greater use of Private Land Mobile Radio equipment, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established the Wireless Medical Telemetry Service (WMTS). This service has three dedicated bands of frequencies: 608 - 614 MHz, 1395-1400 MHz, and 1429 - 1432 MHz that are used for interference-free operation of medical telemetry systems. The FCC has designated ASHE as the Frequency Coordinator for the WMTS. In this capacity, ASHE is responsible for overseeing and managing the WMTS spectrum usage to ensure interference-free operation and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) between medical telemetry devices. All transmitters operating in the WMTS bands must be registered with the ASHE to ensure interference-free operation.
Pending contract completion, Comsearch will provide a broad range of services to ASHE and its members including development of a WMTS device database and device registration capabilities, EMC and interference mitigation consulting, training, industry representation, and wireless consulting.
"We are excited about the opportunity to leverage our quarter century of expertise and talent into the world of Telemedicine and healthcare engineering," said Douglass Hall, President of Comsearch. "The growing need for understanding and mitigation of electromagnetic compatibility issues in healthcare facilities should create a complementary long-term relationship for Comsearch with ASHE and its members."
The American Society for Healthcare Engineering is one of 13 personal membership groups that are affiliated with the American Hospital Association. ASHE's mission is to serve as the advocate and resource for continuous improvement in the health care engineering and facilities management professions. Nearly 6,000 facilities managers, engineers, safety and security, clinical engineering/medical equipment managers, planning, design and construction professionals and others in the fields of healthcare engineering and facilities management are members of ASHE. By supporting members with information, education and advocacy efforts, ASHE members are able to comply with the numerous government regulations and other codes and standards that affect healthcare facilities.
