Comsearch Announces Major Agreement with Cox Communications
Satellite Engineering Firm to Provide Audits for Earth Station Network

ASHBURN, VA - Comsearch announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Cox Communications, Inc., to provide engineering audits of C-band receive/only (R/O) earth station networks that support the cable headends of their Cable Television Network. The audits will enable Cox to complete the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) registration and provide protection of Cox's earth station network.

As an industry leader in providing satellite earth station interference analysis, frequency coordination and FCC licensing services, Comsearch has been assisting broadcasters with the changeover from analog to digital reception to ensure the integrity of their broadcast signal. The reception of the digital signal from satellites requires a much cleaner frequency interference environment and Comsearch's C-band R/O project with Cox will ensure that Cox's earth station sites are free from interference and allow the cable company to register each site with the FCC. In addition, the audits will protect new antenna sites that have been acquired by Cox in recent acquisitions and update the protection status of all Cox C-band antennas to the more stringent digital protection standards.

The project is composed of three phases including verification of the antenna specifications and location, frequency coordination of each earth station antenna location, and filing of revised FCC Form 312s on behalf of Cox. Registration of each site will then protect them from existing and future authorized users of the 3700 to 4200 MHz spectrum such as Cellular, PCS or military and FAA radars.

"Cox has taken a proactive approach to protect the signal reliability of the C-band earth station network that supports their Cable TV signal distribution," said Gary Edwards, senior manager, Earth Station Services at Comsearch. "We are pleased to provide them with the necessary frequency coordination, FCC filing and protection services required to make sure their C-band antennas are protected to the more stringent digital standards."

"Through this effort, Comsearch will help Cox consolidate the licensing of their new acquisitions, alleviate concerns of potential interference, and provide protection of Cox's earth station network based upon the lower interference tolerances of digital satellite signals," said Ken Ryan, director of Satellite Engineering at Comsearch.
